  1. This picture clearly shows the space we had to work with to install our 6 volt batteries. Rather than move batteries around in various positions, we made a couple of cardboard mockups that we could easily shift around to see what configuration worked best. Even though the transmission appears to evenly divide the space, there was more room on the left side, which allowed us to fit batteries side by side. We were advised to leave a little space between each battery to give the batteries some room to discharge heat, and to allow the batteries to be air cooled as they operate. (Other battery installations pack them in tightly against each other, but lose this extra cooling advantage.)
