Taking the bed off the truck was almost as insightful as taking the engine out. Tommy, Lou and Johnny struggle to balance the bed while I take a picture for the scrapbook. For the next month or so, the bed rested on its side in the garage while we made frames for the batteries to rest, supported by the truck frame. We used angle iron from Home Depot which could be bolted together, almost like the old Erector Sets of my childhood play. We initially debated whether to reuse the bed, or create a flat bed/post, which could be lifted to access the batteries. We finally decided reinstalling the bed, welding hinges to it and a support lever to hold it up.
I am a teacher by profession, having taught in all possible venues, both public and private, from K to Adult. My favorite assignments have been in alternative education settings, where I have taught students with emotional and behavioral issues. I like the challenge of dealing with creative thinkers, and find them to be not only intelligent, but also spontaneous in their approach to life.
