This is a sidewards view of the engine compartment, showing how the batteries frame the motor as it sits connected with the transmission. The chain from the cherry picker is still attached because we had to reposition them so the transmission and motor would sit in the same position as the original engine and transmission. This sounds rather complicated, and it did take some creative thinking, but the process was fairly simple. The batteries have not yet been connected in series, nor are the other parts such as the controller and the battery charger installed and connected. It is easy to see the erector set couplings holding the batteries in place. The motor rests on the motor mount where the original engine was bolted, even though it is actually much lighter. The trade off in weight is exchanging the heavy engine for equally heavy batteries, and distributing the weight of the batteries throughout the vehicle for easier handling and operation.
I am a teacher by profession, having taught in all possible venues, both public and private, from K to Adult. My favorite assignments have been in alternative education settings, where I have taught students with emotional and behavioral issues. I like the challenge of dealing with creative thinkers, and find them to be not only intelligent, but also spontaneous in their approach to life.
